This table compares some of the delays currently available. The CPU usage has been measured using Sound Forge and reading the CPU % value. Although this is not a purely scientific method of testing, it gives a fairly accurate reading.

All delays have been tested on a 44100Hz 16-bit stereo file, using 24-bit mode.

Test system: AOpen AX5T-3.1 board, Intel 200MMX CPU, 32 MB SDRAM.

Delay CPU usage Notes
Sonic Foundry Simple Delay 7% The speed makes it useful for simple tasks, but it has absolutely no features...
Sonic Foundry Multi-Tap Delay 14-27% Like the "simple delay", but with 8 taps, a chorus and a low-pass filter. You can only control the channels independently by a simple pan control, which adjusts both the delay and the feedback. Combine this with the (poor) speed and well.....
HyperPrism DX MultiDelay 15% Just about no features. "MultiDelay" means 2 taps. There is also a SingleDelay and an Echo available, they are just as featureless
timeworks Delay 6022 7% Independent control of delay time, delay volume, feedback and high-frequency damping for each channel. Clip light, analogue style meter.   Controllable "ganging" on stereo controls (to ease control of both channels at a time.) Adjustable metering.
